She gets up onstage, she sings, she smiles, she dances. She is introduced as Aino Minako, and hears the screams of her fans, but they don’t know who she really is. Even she doesn’t know who she really is. She calls herself Aino Minako, the name she was given at birth, but whoever this Minako person is, she doesn’t know her. Minako is more of a myth than who she used to be. Minako smiles from posters and CD covers, billboards and advertisements, she is the perfect performer. Sometimes she’s so good, even she believes it. Sometimes she thinks she really does love singing and performing. But then she remembers who she has to be – she’s an old soul and she cannot be controlled by the desires of her new self.

Everyone thinks it is Minako who is seen under bright lights and on shiny magazine covers. But she is forever Venus. They all know her as Aino Minako, they never know they are speaking with Venus. Minako ceased to exist when she became Sailor V. When she remembered everything, who she really was, all she had been and all that was. She discusses a song, she smiles to a fan, she signs an autograph – she is thinking of her mission, she is contemplating her next move, she wonders whether her princess will ever learn control. They think she is so real. They think she deserves to be an idol, to be worshipped. She is a fake. She is only ever real in combat. She is only ever real as Venus. There is no Minako.

Its never Minako under those lights. Its always Venus. Aino Minako is dancing in the shadows somewhere, waiting for her turn. Shadows she knows have already engulfed her. Venus is all there was and ever shall be.
